This movie was such a feel good movie. It has been a while since I have seen a movie that stirs such emotion. I have to admit that the initial allure was the fact that it was about football, and it starred Sandra Bullock. She is like a fine wine, and only gets better with age. The film is about the challenges that faced a then young Michael Oher who is now a professional football player for the Baltimore Ravens. This is a great movie.

Iron Man (2008)
5/5
Wow! I knew it was going to be great from the moment that Robert Downey, Jr. was announced as playing Tony Stark. Now that I have seen the film, I am counting down the minutes until I watch it again. It is the best Marvel Superhero film to date, and after I watch Batman Begins (Two-Disc Special Edition)
0.3again, it may be the best Superhero film ever. Usually, an origin film is drab, and full of stuff that you could do without. However, watching the evolution of Tony Stark / Iron Man and the foreshadowing of War Machine ("Rhodey") and the introduction of S.H.I.E.L.D. has gotten my mouth to water. A little hint...stay and watch what happens at the end of the credits, and enjoy!

National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
5/5
Ben Gates is the Indiana Jones of the 21st Century. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole film, and have to say that this one was probably better than National Treasure
0.3, which was also great. I must warn though that they have left it wide open for a sequel, and I welcome it. Hell, I might just go watch it again this weekend.

Star Trek (2009)
4.5/5
For the first time in 15 years I was excited that a new Star Trek film was being released. Hands down this is the best of them all (Including the perennial heavyweight, Wrath of Khan). Though some of the canon was tinkered with, and the storyline will be forever altered...we get a wonderful film full of action, and sequences that show how awesome a flagship in the Federation's fleet should be. I may take this one in again this weekend.

I Love You, Man (2009)
4.5/5
I loved this movie, man. The teaming of Paul Rudd, and Jason Segal in a film about a recently engaged guy in desperate need of a bromance is hilarious. I don't think I have laughed that hard since...well I cannot remember. If you are looking for a good laugh, without gross out humor, this is the film to watch.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
4.5/5
Jason Segal (Marshall, "How I Met Your Mother") has written a brilliant script. Kristen Bell delivers a performance that reminds me why I miss "Veronica Mars" so much, and Mila Kunis has finally redeemed herself from her annoying Jackie character on "That 70's Show". I cannot remember the last time I laughed as hard as I did in this movie. Hell, I have one more week before the Movie Sm?rg?sbord of May is upon us. I just may have to see it again. "It was at six now it is twelve."

Rambo (2008)
4.5/5
Well, it's been twenty years since Rambo saved the world from oppressive Russians in Afghanistan. Now he has returned to rescue Christian Missionaries in Burma, and WOW! Since the first time I saw the theatrical teaser I knew this was going to be good. I must warn it is graphic, but at least now you have an idea of what a .50 caliber sniper rifle, and .50 caliber machine gun can do. ***Spoiler Alert*** And finally our boy Rambo comes home after accepting who and what he is. If you like action, you'll love Rambo.

Juno (2007)
4.5/5
Diablo Cody. Remember that name. She wrote the script for this gem and I cannot believe that I waited so long to see it. The trailer was appealing, the actors talented, but for some reason I waited. As it climbed the box office charts so did my desire to see it. WOW! Ellen Page does a great job as the title character. The film is well written, and well acted. If you haven't taken the time to see this movie, stop what you are doing, check movie times, and go now. I think you will like it.

The Punisher (2004)
4.5/5
No, this is not the first time I have seen this movie. I have seen it six times, and love it every time I do. I was compelled to watch it again after reading about the sequel The Punisher: War Zone. I and everyone that I have spoken to about the movie are very, very disappointed that Thomas Jane will not be reprising the role of the title character. This film was more than what I could have hoped for. The Punisher was a flawed, and nearly broken man. Instead of going balls to the wall with guns blazing, he chose to systematically bring the villain of the story down. How he manages to get vengeance is the real story in this film, and I believe it was severely under rated by critics. If you have seen it, watch it again. If you haven't, get it. The new The Punisher (Extended Cut)
0.3is available. I own it.

Hitman (2007)
4.5/5
Who said movies based on video games are not good? This movie was great! Now before you criticize, think about what it is. It is a film about a hit man. I was impressed with the fact that the film did not digress into a gratuitous sex scene when there was certainly an opportunity to do so. Timothy Olyphant was great, and Vin Diesel executive produced.

Taken (2008/I)
4/5
Liam Neeson plays a former spy that uses his unique set of skills to rescue his daughter from a group of Albanians. I was on the edge of my seat for this one, but what more can you expect from writer Luc Besson. He sure knows how to weave a wonderful action tale.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

I was a bit apprehensive about this one at first. However, those involved with the first two had not let me down, so I took the plunge. It turned out to be a great back fill for the previous two movies.

Your favorite transporter is back. Frank Martin returns, but this time is forced to deliver a "package" against his will. A buffer, and tougher Frank drives, punches, and kicks his way to beating the bad guys.

Move over Wachowski brothers, there are two more brothers in town, the Kendricks. After reading an article about the recent film Fireproof, and how they make films without paying actors, I decided to take in their first film.

Facing the Giantsfocuses on a small town, high school football coach. Nothing is going right for him. When he reaches his breaking point, he embraces his faith to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Though the acting leaves a little to be desired, I highly recommend this one if you are in the mood for a feel good movie that the whole family can enjoy.

Ricky Gervais plays a Dentist that...well, hates people. So you can imagine his displeasure when he awakens after being dead several minutes and returns to the living with the ability to see and speak with dead people. If you are looking for lighter fair, then I recommend this one.

Having seen the film on which this one was based, I have to say much better. Go to this film anticipating action and it will deliver. Joan Allen perfectly portrays a heartless warden that wants what she wants. Jason Statham continues to have his stock rise as my favorite modern action star. I cannot wait until he returns in the third installment of the Transporter series.

Redbelt (2008)
4/5
Well, with Speed Racer not much appealing to me this weekend, I chose to watch this film instead. What I found was a well done drama. It focuses on a man who is, in short, an idealist. He always wants to do the right thing, and in doing so wins honor, and respect. If you are not spending your extra movie time on watching Iron Man for the third or fourth time, you may want to give this one a look.

The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)

Finally, We get to see Jet Li, and Jackie Chan in the same film. The fight sequences were amazing and the story was good. I enjoyed this film and if they make a sequel, I'll be there to see it as well.

The more I see films involving Simon Pegg, the more I like him. This film focuses on an average guy that finally gets what is important in life after making the stupidest mistake of his life. The trailers made the film seem comedic, but I have to say I think it more a drama. Simon, you have worked your magic a third time. I cannot wait to beam you up as Mr. Montgomery Scott next year.

Jumper (2008)

The trailers made this film look great. I can say that I thought the film was pretty damn good. Watching the film made me wish I was a 'Jumper'. I recommend you check it out before they decide to make a sequel.

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Two actors that can carry a film all on their own. So what happens when they star in the same film? Magic. I recommend this film if you are in the mood for a great drama. Rob Reiner does a great job in the director's chair on this one.

Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)
4/5
So what does it take to make a live action movie about singing chipmunks successful? Get Jason Lee to play Dave Seville. Check. Get a wise cracking 'Mac' (Justin Long) to play Alvin. Check. Get a cerebral profiler type (Matthew Gray Gubler) to play Simon. Check. Get an actual up and coming singer (Jesse McCartney) to play Theodore. Check. Though I was curious to see how they pulled off a movie based on characters I loved as a kid, I was reminded how great it was when my daughters busted out in laughter during the first five minutes of the film. Take the kids, the whole family will love it.

How would you be if you lost your family on Sept. 11, 2001? Adam Sandler plays a man who lost his wife and three daughters during the New York attacks. Don Cheadle plays his long lost college roommate that bonds with him, and helps him find the road to recovery. When you rent this one, don't forget the tissue box.

Probably one of the better if not best movies you've never heard of. It stars Ali Landry (The Doritos Girl) as a woman who has been accidentally cloned by Max (James Roday, "Psych") who is smitten with her. Max and his friend Henry choose to teach 'Repli-Kate' to think like a man instead of a women. What ensues is comedic. I recommend a trip to the video store, or buy it here

Angels & Demons (2009)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
3.5/5
Wolverine is back...for the first time, and he is a bad ass! Though some liberties were taken with the parts of the origin of both Wolverine, and Deadpool (aka Wade Wilson) the film was really good, and I look forward to the spinoff film Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds.

Race to Witch Mountain (2009)
3.5/5
Dwayne Johnson's stock continues to rise with this family fair. This remake reminded me of my childhood, especially when the cast from the last two Witch Mountain films appeared in cameos. Dwayne has left his wrestling persona behind, as he establishes himself as a versatile, and talented actor. The kids loved it, too.

Watchmen (2009)
3.5/5
Zack Snyder proved he had vision with 300. He has returned to helm Watchmen. This is not your typical Superhero movie. It is dark, proves that even heroes have a dark side. It jumps around a bit, and toward the end felt as if it was too long, but it was well done.

Push (2009)
3.5/5
Well, the first comic book adaptation of 2009 has is upon us. While I was not anticipating this one as much as I am Watchmen, I have to say that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. There are some holes in the plot, but some of the effects are cool.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
3.5/5
Despite the "save the environment" undertone, I really enjoyed this one. Keanu Reeves plays Klaatu, an alien sent by extra terrestrial civilizations to save the Earth from humanity. However, he realizes that there is more to humanity that he realizes, and saves the world from destruction. Having never seen the original, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the film. I may actually rent the 1951 original of the same name.

My Best Friend's Girl (2008)
3.5/5
Let me just say, I love Dane Cook. His paring with Kate Hudson was much funnier than his paring with Jessica Alba, and I thought Good Luck Chuck was funny. This time around Cook plays Tank Turner, a man hired to make women appreciate the previous asshole they dated. Though the ending could have been a bit better, overall I laughed so hard I could not breathe.

The Dark Knight (2008)
3.5/5
I still think that the reigning hero of the Summer 2008 battle is Iron Man. However, hands down Heath Ledger stole the show, as the Joker. Bale delivered again as the best Batman. The story got away from itself by trying to squeeze in Harvey Dent. Does this remind you of another franchise that tried to fit too many baddies into the same film recently?

The Incredible Hulk (2008)
3.5/5
HULK...BACK!! This time it was much better. Do not get me wrong, I liked the first film, but this had more action, and made the Hulk more "human". Getting Lou Ferrigno to voice the Hulk was great, too.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the...
3.5/5
Nineteen years is too long to wait for one of your favorite adventurers to return. Although it was great seeing Harrison Ford back in the role, there were far more "scenes of absurdity" in this installment. Having been a big fan of the series, I can say that much like being a virgin that finally gets what they have been waiting for; the wait was better than the experience. A certain Scarlet and Gold superhero owns the top slot for movies this summer. Sorry, Indy!

Street Kings (2008)
3.5/5
All star cast, action, and a plot. Wow, what a concept! Keanu Reeves plays a good "Bad Cop" that when pushed, does the right thing. I am sure having Hugh Laurie (Dr. House, "House") playing his IA Jiminy Cricket helped.

Vantage Point (2008)
3.5/5
Thomas Barnes is the latest bad ass to jump onto the silver screen. Dennis Quaid does a great job as a secret service agent that has recently returned from having been shot protecting the president, only to have the president assassinated. Watching the same footage from different angles for the first 40 minutes takes some getting used to, but the film delivers.

Well, Denzel stars in and directs this film. I was inspired and got a little emotional. Although, I think some of the film was embellished a bit overall I found it to be enjoyable. I disagree with the socialist overtones, but good job on your directorial d?but Mr. Washington.

I Am Legend (2007)
3.5/5
What can I say about this film? Well, for a remake it wasn't bad. Remake? Yeah, and not a "first" remake, but a remake of a remake. Though to be fair this one actually is named after the Robert Matheson book on which it is based. Will Smith did a great job as a Dr. Robert Neville, the "lone" survivor after a terrible virus destroys civilization. I recommend the film, but I am really eager to re-examine the first remake, The Omega Man
0.3, starring Charlton Heston. You may also wish to review the Vincent Price film, The Last Man on Earth
, which started it all.

The Golden Compass (2007)
3.5/5
Ok. We've all heard the squabbling going on about this movie. You know? The argument about being anti-church. I must say as a Christian that has not read the book series, I found the film to be rather enjoyable. It starts slow, but picks up, and I LOVE the Ice Bears. I think the story gets a bit rushed at times, and it has as big a cliffhanger ending as the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. That said, any parent that is concerned should not be too concerned. However, be prepared to answer any questions that may arise. As far as fantastical story....very good.

Beowulf (2007)
3.5/5
My how far special effects have come from the glory that was the original Star Wars. Granted it has been almost 20 years since I have read the story of Beowulf, so I cannot comment on the story, but visually the movie is great. Motion capture technology is amazing. The animated body of Angelina Jolie is amazing. If you are going to watch it, see it in theaters and ante up and pay the additional fee to see the 3-D version. It will amaze you.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)

Kevin James is really starting to come into his own in movies. Though parts of the film went to far in the self pity department, the rest was good. There was not anything real objectionable either, so you could make it a family thing.

Although I have been a little disappointed with some of Adam Sandler's more recent fare, I have to say that this film made me smile. It wasn't hilarious like some of his older films, but was enjoyable. I might even consider letting my kids see this film. It is much better than his role as the Zohan.

Although I think there are some better romantic comedies out there, this one isn't bad. Ryan Reynolds has been slowly proving that he can do anything. Abigail Breslin has turned in another great performance as his 10-year old daughter. I think that you should Definitely, Maybe check it out.

After viewing the trailer the first time I thought the film should have been called "Always a Bridesmaid". However, after viewing the film I think that the name is appropriate. Especially since they reasonably explain the title. I think that this is a good date movie.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007)
3/5
John C. Reilly has long been in the shadow of others, but he has never been unnoticed. Now this great character actor moves into the limelight in his first starring role. I must say that I was surprised at how well he sings, and that helped sell this fictional biopic of the now deceased Dewey Cox. My favorite is the innuendo laden Duet with Jenna Fischer's character, aptly title 'Duet'. I still chuckle when I think about it. Though it is not the funniest movie I have ever seen, there were moments where the absurdities were forgotten as I was gasping for air with hysterical laughter. If you love "idiot humor", you'll love this movie.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege...
2.5/5
Now I see why the film was delayed. If you are a fan of fantasy, or the game on which this film is based then you may enjoy it. Don't expect much though. There are serious continuity issues in the film and poor editing makes some scenes hard to follow. Jason Statham provides the action you have come to expect from him, but the people behind the film could have done a better job at plot development. Ray Liotta does a great job as the villain, and I LOVE the battle between him and our hero. Watch it if you wish, and expect nothing in return.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
2/5
Where do I begin? I will start by saying that I love all things Vampire. With one exception. This might be that exception. I wanted to like it, but found myself looking at the clock on my phone wondering when it was going to be over. I thought at one point that even George Lucas could probably write better dialogue. I found myself comparing it to The Vampire Diaries which airs on the CW. It is far better.

AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (2007)
2/5
If action and violence is what you want than this is a four star movie. If you want action, violence, and plot, well this is what you get. A cardinal rule was broken in the film. When you introduce sexual tension between characters, there is supposed to be a cheap pay off. If you are a fan of the franchise, and even the graphic novels then I am sure that the mention of being introduced to Mrs. Yutani will excite you as much as it did me.
